We need a larger view of death and dying and particularly of life. Life includes what we call death. There is birth, there is death and there are the spaces in between. It is all of one fabric. Death can be a healing: it is the only healing we know on this earth so far: a bringing of life full circle, completing it, making it whole. There is an inhumanity to continually holding on to someone when she wants to go. There is cruelty in interrupting his dying.
There is a time when death can be a gentle friend. There is a time when the healing of a good death is welcome. There is a time for peace to pour its soothing.
The line is crossed by all of us. What we owe to those crossing it is love. What is the most loving thing we can do for them, now?
